Silver Dots

I grabbed a few polishes from A England during their last sale. The ones I grabbed were mostly from The Mythicals collection as I fell in love not only with their colors but with their names too! The Mythicals collection polishes seems like they were names after characters form the legend of King Arthur and Merlin. One of my favorite stories ever!

I wanted to try something new on my blog today took out my dotting tool and A England Excalibur. I first made a line through the middle of my nails with Excalibur and topped that with a thinner streak of China Glaze Exotic Encounters. I was thinking to add another stripe on to it but instead took my dotting tool and went to town! If anything went wrong I could always paint over the dots right? :P

This is my first time ever using an A England polish and I can say I love Excalibur! It is a really nice silver foil and I think it may be a one coater! I shall have to try it on it's own one day to find out.

I am looking at my mani and am thinking, Exotic Encounters is kinda like a dragon-y color and Excalibur was forged in the dragons breath - how apt! LOL.

China Glaze - Exotic Encounters

Exotic Encounters is from China Glaze Fall 2012 On Safari Collection. I got this polish off a blog sale for just $4! I was super happy to grab it at that price as I usually pay $8+ for just one China Glaze nail polish.

Exotic Encounters is a dusty green leaning teal creme. Application was awesome with only 2 coats to achieve opacity!

An awesome polish at an awesome price! Life's good~

Day 9 - Recreate Your Favorite

Can you guess what my favorite challenge was? I am gonna re-do the challenge from Day 1. Yep! Galaxy nails!

I kinda fell in love with the color combination I used on my thumb and was determined to redo a full manicure using those colors!

Please ignore my super dry cuticles. All the polish and acetone has taken it's toll on them.

I was wondering why I decided to use this colors the first time but just couldn't recall where I saw this color combination. Then after I just decided to google 'galaxy' and see what they look like in real life. I was blown away with all the photos! Outer space looks so calm and serene.

I believe I took inspiration form this photo the most with the reds and yellows in there with the blue and greens.

My right hand turned out pretty good too! I switched out the bigger stars (crosses) for dots on my left hand because I didn't want to risk ruining everything.

The red is more blended on this hand than on my left hand too! My left hand is getting better at this nail art thingy.

And here are some close up of my thumbs. They are usually always hidden but I thought that they deserved the spotlight this time!

And that's the end of the 9 day challenge! *phew* It was really fun and I really enjoyed creating and trying all these new looks and techniques!

What is your favorite look from all the 9 days? Do let me know in the comments!

OPI Black Onyx
OPI Alpine Snow

Vanity Trove February Box

And finally! My Vanity Trove beauty box. I have heard many good reviews of their previous boxes so I was really excited to get it! I took really long to type out this post because I was busy celebrating the Lunar New Year and work. Mostly the latter actually.

Here we have today is the February Edition debut box for Vanity Trove Malaysia . Before this box Vanity Trove was shipping directly from Singapore and the coupons given were for use in Singapore only. Now with Vanity Trove Malaysia we don't have any problems with that!

The construction of the Vanity Trove box is slightly different form other boxes. Instead of a regular top opened box this box slides out like a drawer! I have half a mind to stick a few of these together to create my own little drawer tower :D

Here are the contents of my box:

Clockwise from left: b.liv Off With Those Heads Blackheads Sebum Gel, small box filled with chocolates, benefit POREfessional, SP Repair shampoo and mask, Di Palomo Tuscan Rose Hand & Body Lotion, Oriks Wild Ginseng Stemcell Twister Essence and BB Cream

With the box was the product description card and a handwritten note too! The chocolates were Merci Chocolates and were gone by the time I finished snapping photos. :P

On to the products!

b.liv | Off With Those Heads Blackheads Sebum Gel (45ml/RM179.90)
Remove white heads and blckheads gently and effectively with Off With Those Heads Blackheads Sebum Gel! This wonder Gel also keeps oil secretions under control and banishes all kinds of skin irritations.

I have not had the chance to use this product yet as I am still testing out my facial care package from Human Nature but this does sound interesting. All I need to do is to apply it for 14days and I will be black/white head free!

Tuscan Rose | Hand and Nail Cream (75ml/RM59)
An enriching and luxurious Hand and Nail Cream blended with Olive & Grapeseed Oils to leave your hands soft, smooth and nourished.

Yay for hand cream! I took a quick whiff of it and at first I was taken aback. The scent was really strong! But as I wore it I started to fall in love with it. This is not your regular rose scent. It is much more sensual and matured. This hand cream is also very moisturising and has awesome staying power. I could still pick up a faint scent after a handwash or two!

System Professional | Repair Shampoo (250ml/RM65) and Repair Mask (200ml/RM100)
The Repair Shampoo detangles and evens out hair structure After cleansing, try the Repair Mask, which improves texture by up to 200% after a single applicaiton.

More System Professional Hair Care products! I first got the SP Smoothen Shampoo and Mask form my Cosmobox and I loved the maskback then. I am sure it will be the same this time round too!

ORIKS | Wild Ginseng Stemcell Twister Essence (35ml/RM218)
Soft anf velvety, the Wild Ginseng Stemcell Twister Essence reduces visible pores while hydrating and nourishing your skin.

ORIKS | BB Cream (35ml/RM108)
The BB Cream is formulated with plant stem cells to repair and keep your skin healthy while covering imperfections. It's unique 3 tier cream design includes the milk lotion with wild ginseng, the concealer and the serum with repair complex CLR.

Ginseng has always been a favorite in the Chinese culture for good health and all so I do believe that when used in beauty products it will definitely help. BB Cream samples? Why thank you! How did you know I am trying out different kinds of BB Creams! I will definitely review this one day!

benefit | POREfessional (22ml/RM115)
Minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines with this smooth operator. Silky and lightweight, wear POREfessional balm on its own or under or on top of makeup, Its translucent, oil-free formula complements different skin tones and helps makeup stay put. It contains a Vitamin E derivative, known to protect the skin from free radicals.

This is my favorite product in the box! I tried it on and immediately could see results! My skin was smooth and my pores were visibly smaller. This little sample is 10ml, which when you do the math is almost half of the full size! I will definitely purchase this once this (and all my other samples) run out!  Must.Stick.To.Low.Buy!

All in all I am loving this beauty box by Vanity Trove! There is quite a few products from well known brands and all decent sized samples too! They also have a variety among their boxes as I can see the prices for other products from the same brands on the product description card.

RM60  may seem a little on the expensive side compared to other subscription boxes. Compared to the other boxes, all the products in the box are deluxe sized samples, no full sized items here. BUT if you actually bother to do the math, you definitely got your moneys worth in this box.

If you are interested to purchase this box head on to the Vanity Trove website to sign up. Remember to pick the correct country when you are checking out to avoid missing out on them! Of course, don't forget to follow Vanity Trove Malaysia on Facebook for sneak peeks!

This is a personal review, I am in no way associated with the company or any of the brands featured here.

Day 8 - Polka Dot Nails

I thought I would jazz up the previous mani just a little and since it's Polka Dots day why not!

I initially wanted to do dots on the whole nail but a failed attempt on my thumb led me to do otherwise. I finally settles with just a strip of dots running down the middle. I think it turned out rather OK.

For the dots I used Lucky Lucky Lavender on Lilac, Steady As She Rose on Lucky Lucky Lavender and Lilac on Steady As She Rose.

I still need lots of practice for my dots :S

Purple Skittles!

More untried polishes in this post! Actually, out of the 4 polishes I have on my fingers in this post, 2 are untrieds and the other two haven't been used in quite some time!

I was thinking of a way to use all 4 polishes.I finally settled on a skittelette manicure to tackle this task. In shades of purple again! I think purple may just be my new favorite color.

The idea was to do a ombre manicure at the same time actually, one of the many nail art techniques that I have yet to pull off successfully!

What do you think? Does it count as an ombre manicure?

I used these colors Color by T.B.N Lilac (thumb), OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender (index finger), OPI Steady As She Rose (middle finger) and on The Hungry Asian Vote for Purple (ring finger and pinky).

OPI - Pink Yet Lavender

My one and only OPI nail polish from the Mariah Carey Collection which I got Receive in my Cosmobox last month. I was super excited about it then and knew that I had to swatch it quick. So here it is - Pink Yet Lavender!

Since this polish is meant to be a layering polish I chose to swatch it over (from my index finger) OPI Black Onyx, Zoya Dove, OPI Alpine Snow and over my bare nail on my pinky.

Pink Yet Lavender is a clear based polish filled with small lavender and holographic glitters and a good dash of rose pink hex glitters. The formula was surprisingly normal for me. I have read on other nail blogs that this polish was a little on the thick side.

The photo above is one coat of Pink Yet Lavender on all but my pink which has 2 coats. I love how the pink glitters are scarce and the little glitters cover up the space in between the pink glitters.

At 2 coats, you can see that there are much more pink hex glitters and that the smaller glitters have filled up the empty spaces really well.

I especially love how Pink Yet Lavender looks on Black Onyx! It looks like a galaxy filled with pink stars~

I should do some pink galaxy nails with this polish one day. This polish would be the perfect glitter fotr that job!

This maybe my only polish from the OPI Mariah Carey Collection but I am definitely eyeing Sprung. It reminds me of a copper version of GoldenEye. Anyone out there has both of them? What do you think?

Day 7 - Inspired by a Tutorial

I'm sporting nubbins in this post. Well, my nails decided it is too long and broke on me while I was painting my nails for this 9 Day Nail Art Challenge. Nubbins or not I must forge on. LOL!

I decided to do my nails based on this tutorial from Sarah from Chalkboard Nails. Sarah always has gorgeous swatches on her blog and her nail art is just drool-worthy!

Back to todays nails.

I always love leopard prints on my fingers but so far I have only used a stamp to do so. I always avoid free handing it because I am afraid that it would not come out perfect. Yea, I'm weird like that.

I pinned this tutorial since the day it came out but I never tried it till now. And now I think to myself - Oh My Gawd, why was I so scared before! LOL!

I used Mrs Claus I got from my grab bag from 365 Days of Color as my base color. Mrs Claus is a raspberry jelly with gold shimmer in it. I kinda like the color but it  turned out to be a little sheer for my liking.  I am wearing 3 coats of Mrs Claus on my nails. If you look carefully you can still see my nail line underneath the spots.

The spots are done with Skin Food Pedicure Sparkle in Gold and wrapped with OPI Black Onyx.

My first attempt at Free handed Chevrons

I tried some free handed chevrons and I think they came out quite good!

I wanted to do something simple that wouldn't take away from my base color a.k.a Shockingly White from yesterday. I decided to match my tips to the glitters in the polish; and why not put a white in it for contrast!

10 minutes of careful painting and waiting..... Voila!

I used OPI Alpine Snow and Lucky Lucky Lavender to create the chevrons. I used the brush in the bottles to do this too. No striping tape or stripng brush needed!

I picked Lucky Lucky Lavender because it brings out the pink and purple glitters in this polish as well as match the funkiness in the base color. And Alpine Snow being a pure white gives a good contrast between the two colors.

And a bottle shot to end this post because I haven't done one of these in a long time!

LynB Designs - Shockingly White

I have been good and haven't bought any nail polishes in the month of February! *gives myself a pat on the back* But I have to say the only reason I have not done so is because that I still have many untrieds from past months purchases. :P

Today I have a lovely creme-glitter bomb from LynB Designs that I am in love with! This is Shockingly White from Jenna's Get A Clue collection (which I have no clue what it is).

Shockingly White is a really unique polish. Unlike it's name, it is rather an off-white-mauve-pink polish than a pure white polish. The glitters in it are *drool* gorgeous! There is a dash of shimmer and lots of pink, purple and ligh blue holo squares as well as fine glitter in it.

I only needed 3 coats to acheive opacity. The glitters came out with no problems too! What you see here was done with no fishing whatsoever!

And as usual, my right hand has more glitter on it compared to my left hand!

And since I love this polish a whole lot I am going to spam you with more photos of this mani after the jump!

Day 6 - Gradient Nails

I done a few different types of gradient nails before. Let me see, I have done - glitter on creme gradients, glitter-glitter gradients and creme-creme gradients. Today I have something different from the gradients I have tried before, a metallic on creme gradient.

My choice of polishes for this challenge are Essie Mink Muffs and China Glaze Poetic.

I started off with 3 thin coats of Mink Muff and sealed it in with some Seche Vite top coat. After about 15minutes I picked up my make-up sponge and began sponging on Poetic. I kinda messed up my thumb but learnt from there and did the rest of my nails just nicely.

I did not use a top coat after sponging because I like the difference in the texture of the 2 polishes. I do not on any OPI Liquid Sands polishes but the gritty effect created by Poetic does resemble it a little. Or maybe it's just me that is seeing it that way :/

Sonnetarium Hong Bao

This was actually the manicure that I wore for Lunar New Year. I took the photos but never found the time to edit and post them. I was really busy visiting and munching on snacks the whole time!

I started off my manicure with 2 coats of Etude House LUCIDarling Shimmering #5, a bright red with shimmer in it, and topped it off with Hong Bao by Sonnetarium. Hong Bao 紅包 stands for the red packets which unmarried people a.k.a me get during the Lunar New Year.

Hong Bao 紅包 is a orangey red jelly polish packed with gold and black hexes and a dash of gold shimmer in it. It definitely changed up the base color a good bit. For the better that is! Though this manicure is super simple, I did get quite a few compliments on it! So..Yay!

Now, back to sitting in front of the TV with New Year cookies. Ta~
