Merdeka Nails!

Happy Friday!

It is a holiday here in Malaysia. It is our Hari Merdeka a.k.a National Day today! 55th National day to be exact! To celebrate this day, I have decided to do a mani based on the Malaysian flag, or more fondly known in Malaysia as the Jalur Gemilang. Looks familiar??

YES! The Malaysian flag does resemble the American flag quite a bit. If you are curious about the meanings behind the elements on the flag click THIS link for more information.

On to the nails!

I have chosen some really pretty colors from Cult Nails for this mani. And - yup! - I decided to do a tape mani again. I picked inspiration from Sophie's (My Awesome Beauty) little tutorial here. It's funny how the colors I used are actually quite similar to Sophie's. Hers is more pastel-y and mine brighter.

My picks for this mani was - Cult Nails Evil Queen (red), Time Traveler (blue), Feel Me Up (yellow) and OPI Alpine Snow for the white.

artificial light

Time Traveler and Evil Queen were both really hard to photograph! The colors seemed to come out really really dark on the nails than in real life. The only way to get the colors as close to as it is IRL is to use flash as seen below.

Or if I put my hand reeaaaaaaally close to the light above my headboard.

 One more for the go!

The blue of this mani turned up a little dark for my taste and I wanted to lightened it up. And of course, I couldn't resist adding some glitter to it! With no hesitation, I looked into my polish collection and pulled out Rainbow Honey's Mare of the Moon!

indirect sunlight

All I did was a thin coat on my nails. If you look closely, I only have 2 bits of glitter in this mani. It was intentional of course! I made sure I swiped off the moons and stars before each coat. If I did not I would have had at least 3 stars in these photos!

Cotton Candy

I've been so busy posting new stuff that I have ignored many posts in my draft folder. So, for the next few days/weeks I will be posting those oldest in the draft folder before I move forward. Hope you'll like them!

Another super duper awesome polish from Sunny at 365 Days of Color! It applied wonderfully and I did not have to do much to get the glitters on mu fingers. I looooooved this soo much. The color combination. The jelly-ness. The ease of application. It is definitely a winner in my books!

I wore this alone (3 coats) topped with Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

Tutu glittered

Evening Sun

Did I mention that I managed to collect all 6 polishes from the OPI New York City Ballet Collection? I finally got all 6 polishes after scouting at leas t3 different websites selling them. It wasn't all that easy mind you. One of the sellers actually did not know what stock she had and was having a ton of OOS items on her shop.

Anyways, lets get away from that and focus on the pretty polish!

My fingernails are stained really really bad. I'm quite sure if you did not read the title you would't have guessed which OPI NYC Ballet I used! This is 3 coats of OPI Don't Touch My Tutu topped with a glitter gradient with LA Girl Glitter Addict in Celebrate.

Indirect Sunlight (morning)

I love how Celebrate is packed with red, white, blue and a hint of green glitter! This is a perfect glitter to bust out for Independence Day Celebrations later this week!

My first casualty!

It was just a split second and just a few inches in the wrong direction and before I knew it a polish bottle hit the floor! Though e.l.f polishes may be cheap in comparison, I really loved this polish. I used it maybe once as a full mani, once in a gradient mani (coming up soon!) and 3 times as a pedi. *sigh*

RIP e.l.f Fire Coral

I am missing you tons already!

OK, I posted on the e.l.f sale yesterday. So I'm going out on a leg asking this - Anyone willing to send some e.l.f.s over to me? I could purchase them and ship them over to you and you forward them to me later? Please? Anyone?

Nail Polish Sale Alert!!

e.l.f is giving away 8 free polishes of your choice with any purchase of $20!

Anyone who lives within e.l.f shipping areas DO NOT HESITATE! I have only 3 polishes from them and I love them tons! At just $2 a bottle the formula and color both blew me away!

If shipping was tons cheaper I would definitely not hesitate to pick a ton of polish from them. *sigh*

Click on the photo to be taken to the sale!

From the Vault: Matte in the Sun

I decided to bust out my depleting bottle of Matte Magic from China Glaze as I think it has been sitting around in my drawer for long enough. And as usual - I am totaly blown away with this matte glitter mani!! Matte-ing this mani brings it to a whole new dimension. Many people who usually don't really notice my manicures did a second take and were surprised at it's texture! :D

(These photos were taken at high noon a few months ago! Oh how I missed that bright sunny sun!)

Lime Up! is a funny color. In certain lights it looks like a true bright lime green (above). but if you just moved a bit, the color would take on a yellowish hue (below). Just like it was Chartreuse instead of Lime Green.

From the Vault: Essence Lime Up! and Jordana My Superstar

You know how I said I'd love to see Jordana Glitters in My Superstar with a good Lime Green when I got it? Well, I kept to my word and did a mani with those exact colors. I really can't take my eyes off my fingers wearing this mani!!

The contrast between the glitter of My Superstar and the lime green really stands out!

And since I had a pen which was the similar shade, I of course had to bling it too!
Don't you just love my new pen :)

From the Vault: Lime Up!

I got an awesome polish for you today - Essence Lime Up! I got it last month in my mini haul from essence. I love essence polishes because they are very economical, have a good array of colours and have so far not disappointed with the formula.

Lime Up! is as the name so obviously states is a nice bright lime polish. I used 3 coats in the photos because I was quite impatient and applied too quickly and caused dragging on some nails. If you are a good you can easily get away with 2 careful coats.

One more photo of the green mani for the go! :)

No, my nails did not just grow 3mm in the last 3days. This post has been hiding in my draft folder right before I got my nubbins hence the longer finger nails.

piCture pOlish - peaches n' cream

I am still slowly going through my last piCture pOlish order but I am already tempted to make another order with them for their new releases! Ahh!

Anyways, I have today a nice peach polish from piCture pOlish aptly names peaches n' cream. PnC is a creamy light pastel peach with a little bit of pink in it. The first coat tends to be streaky but it does level out on the second coat.

And a photo taken during high noon in the car hence the blurry photo.

The Hungry Asian - Strawberry

I got a polish from The Hungry Asian for you today! This was actually taken quite a while ago. I don't know how it never made it to the blog.

Anyways, I proudly present to you Strawberry! Strawberry, as it;s namesake, is an awesome red creme filled with black microglitter. The red is nice and bright and applies like a dream. There wasn't a problem getting the glitter out of the bottle. What you see below is two effortless coats :)

And now for an artsy shot of my nails and the cobblestone pavement:

Dress Me Up

Ahh!! I had a really busy doing nothing weekend. I spent both Friday and Saturday night out with friends which led me to not getting my usual sleep. Getting only 4 hours of sleep, I woke at 7 in the morning on Saturday; but I was lucky it did not repeat again on sunday. I had a good 8 hour sleep in! I wanted to do a quick mani Sunday night but was too tired to do so. I actually fell asleep just after i removed my previous mani.

Today's mani was actually done at the office during lunch! This is 2 coats of China Glaze Dress Me up topped with Essence's Quick Dry topcoat.

Taken under the evening sun

I love the creaminess of Dress Me Up. The colour is a rich dusty rose creme. Some would find this color rather boring and granny-like but I guess it is up to ones personal preference. I think I mentioned before that this polish resembles OPI's Barefoot in Barcelona. While it looks similar, they are actualy quite different. GC DMU is much warmer and has more red in it than OPI BiB.

Artificial lighting bleaches this color a little, making it more like BiB

The second part of this post is a review on Essence's quick dry topcoat. This is my third time using it and it dissapoints me once again. My mani dented and got scratched badly even after a whole hour of waiting. Just look at the photos below!

Right Hand: Scratched and dented

This little line is made from a piece of tape getting stuck on my nail!

Left hand: A closer look at the big scratch on my middle finger

I have read many good reviews on this top coat but I think it just doesn't work for me. I definitely will not throw it out but I think a SV is much needed in my emergency stash!

Tiger Nails

This was supposed to be a tribute to Malaysia's Olympic Champions - Datuk Lee Chong Wei and Pandelela Rinong - but I just found out that Harimau Malaya (Malayan Tiger) is the nick name for our Malaysian football team. Ahh! I so fail when it comes to matters relating to sports!

Owh wells! It matches their jackets and it is still an awesome manicure!

This is my second attempt at stamping and it was quite a sucess if I may say! I used 2 coats of Sally Hansen Sun Kissed (which I have worn before here) and stamped on with some stamping polishes I got for cheap from Nail Fiesta.

Congratulations to Pandelela Rinong!!

Malaysia got a second medal in the Olympics this year! Early this morning (2am Malaysian time) Malaysian diver Pandelela Rinong won the Bronze medal in the Women's 10 meter platform!!!

This brings our all time Olympics medal count up to ---- THREE medals! LOL. Yea. Only 3 in the past 30 Olympiads. Now I strongly believe that - Malaysia Boleh! (Translation : Malaysia Can)

Charming happy ending

My Prince Charming definitely could use a Happy Ending don't you think?

I added Happy Ending from The Cult Fairy Tale Collection to my tips and all over my index finger as an accent finger. I did not fall in love with Happy Ending at first sight but I think I can grow to love it :) The shredded glitter sure adds a different dimension to this manicure!

Cult Nails Charming

Today I have another untried from Cult Nails! I present to you Charming form the Cult Fairy Tale Collection that came out a few months ago. On her blog, Maria said that Charming is  purple creme, but to me, Charming seems more like a purple jelly. Although this picture doesnt really show off it's shimmer, it is definitely there, trust me on this!

Cult Nails polishes can be bought at their online store. Do follow Maria, the creator of Cult Nails on her blogFacebook and Twitter for more updates and news on the brand.

Rainbow Honey A Little Kindness

I choose A Little Kindness from the Rainbow Honey's Equestria Collection to layer on Lemon Fizz. Did you guess correct?

A Little Kindness is packed with gold, rose and white glitters suspended in a sheer yellow base with pink iridescent shimmer. Since it has a yellow base, I thought this combination would be perfect. I guessed right didn't I! And considering my not-too-awesome photography skills, you can still catch a glimpse of the pink shimmer in the base in these photos! *yay*

This was 2 coats of RH A Little Kindess over 3 coats CG Lemon Fizz.

More shots of this lovely polish after the jump!

Lemon Fizz

A quick quick post on what I'm wearing on my fingers right now!

This is China Glaze's Lemon Fizz from the Up & Away Collection 2010. It is a pale summery yellow which in some lights look like rich creamy butter to me!

I am thinking to layer some Rainbow Honey glitters on this! Can you guess which?

Haul : Rainbow Honey's Equestria Collection

My most recent nail polish haul consist of the whole Rainbow Honey's Equestria Collection! *Wheeee* Not all the polishes in the photo below belongs to me. I got the 15ml full set. The minis aren't mine but they sure look sooo adorable!

The Equestria Collection is inspired by the My Little Pony cartoon from the 80s. I did watch them through the 90s when I was a little girl. I loved them but back then, being so young, I didn't know the characters by name D:

But hey! Now I get to know them once more - through nail polish! Dee from Rainbow Honey has created a different glitter polish for the different characters. There is Princess Celestia, Princess Luna a.k.a Nightmare Moon,
And here are my babies out of the box.
I love how Dee from Rainbow Honey packs and sends her items so professionally. I am amazed from the boxes to the labels to the leaflet of the collection that came with my order!

Bottle shots after the jump! :)

Congratulations to Datuk Lee Chong Wei!

Malaysia's FIRST medal in the games this year!

Even though you did not win the Olympic Gold for Men's Single Badminton I am still very proud of you! Considering your torn tendon just 3 moths ago you played a very nail biting match!

Keep up the good work! I do so hope to see you win the gold in the 2016 Olympics!

And hey - if the rumors are true -Congrats on your impending nuptials!

From the Vault: Foiled

This isn't the best picture of it but this is definitely the best way to remove glitter polish. I used to take forever just to remove just 2 layers of polish. But after the last manicure I decided I did not want to chance it and send and hour removing nail polish and went with this method.

All you have to do is to soak some cotton in polish remover, press it against your nail and wrap it all with some foil. Listen to some music for 10 minutes or so then just drag the cotton along your nail with the foil and...

Glitter be gone~

From the Vault: Mermaid Nails

After the last post I'm sure some were wondering - How could she just leave it like that?!
Well, I couldn't and didn't!

I decided to go full on and glitter up my nails with both glitter polishes! It was a whole lot of polish on my nails mind you. Seche Plus Base coat, 3 coats of OPI My Pointe Exactly, 2 coats of LUCIDarling #07 and 2 coats of Milani Teal, a coat of Esence Quick Dry Top coat and last but not least a quick coat of Seche Vite Dry Fast top coat which brings me to a total of 10 coats of polish on my nails!!!!

I like how the colours turned out. It kinda remind me of the mermaid nails that are buzzing around on nail blogs and pinterest with the blues and the greens and the grey.

These nails were hard to photograph! The glitters were so sparkly that my camera didn't know where to focus on.

Take 4

Take 7

Finally another sharper photo! But it seems that the glitter is way darker in this photo. :/

As scary as 10 coats of polish sounds like, this combination was actually not too thick on my nails and wore really well. I only removed it after 4 days because the weekend was ending and these are not exactly office friendly nails. I am really really surprised that these nails did not crack or chip at all!

I wanted to do a glitter sandwich with this, and I actually did it on my thumb, but decided that I couldn't hide all the awesome glitter on my nails! I did take a few photos of the sandwiched thumb though.

The thumb actually loks quite good, OPI MPE gave a milky touch to the glitters. If I wasn't in such a glitter-y mood I definitely would have went ahead and sandwiched it all.

And to end it all, a bottle shot of the awesome glitteriness (I really doubt this is a word) of Milani Teal:

Happy weekend!
