Election Day

Election Day is one of the four polishes that I got from Paris Sparkles. I have always been eyeing this polish since I first discovered indie nail polishes on Etsy. I love the subtle glitter in a creamy base.

Election day has blue and pink hex glitters, a dash of green hex glitters as well as fine blue and holo glitter in the mix. The formula for this polish was a little on the thick side, and the glitters all sank to the bottom of the bottle when I took it out. I don't blame it though. It was afterall in transit for more than 2 weeks before I got it. It took about 30minutes of standing it upside down and some rolling to get the glitter off the bottom.

Application was rather tricky. The white base was really opaque but it was tricky as well. I tried doing 2 thin coats at first but all the glitter kept getting covered by the cream base. So in the end, out of frustration, I just applied ONE THICK COAT. And that was the key really! As long as my brush had glitter particles on it, it would show up nicely on my fingernails! How lucky of me to find this out :D

Nekkid Nails

I took some photos of my nude nails just to show you how stained they are. If you look at them, you can see that my nails are 80% stained with a small gap near the cuticle. My nail line is also very very prominent which makes wearing sheers and jelly polishes an issue sometimes.

Honestly, up untill now I am still not sure which polish it was that caused the stains on my fingers. But I am quite sure it's one of my OPIs.

It's funny how the evening sun seems to have 'bleached' my nails while taking this photos.

I have gotten so used to having polish on my nails it makes me feel so insecure with it being nekkid. I am scared it might break on me anytime! Off to paint my nails now! I am gravitating towards something more neutral and less gritty. Come back tomorrow and see what I've been up to :)

Sea Creature

I finally found some me time today! Aside from doing a bunch of chores, I finally could sit down to do a swatch and review of Sea Creature which I got from Kae from the Hungry Asian.

At first glance Sea Creature leans more to a darker shade of teal, almost black. I wanted to bring out the hidden blue tones in it so I decided to pair it with a nice bright blue polish - OPI No Room For The Blues - as the base.

I swatched Sea Creature in increasing layers across my fingers to see how it would build up and it seems it does that quite well. But I did have to wait a minute or so between the layers to avoid too much tugging and sliding.

From L-R: 1 coat, 2 coats, 3 coats, 4 coats

The first coat of Sea Creature already sees a rather high glitter density and by the second coat I would say that the nail is almost 70% covered. At 3 coats, Sea Creature is almost opaque with only bits of the base colour peeking through. And by the time the fourth coat it actually looks exactly like how it is in the bottle.

I added 2 coats of top coat and wore this out for dinner, passing it as a ombre mani.

I managed to get a shot with the evening sun!

Looking back on the photos as I post them, I think Sea Creature may look better on darker polishes. Or at least you could get a good dark color with 3 coats instead of 4 like I did here.

The Hungry Asian Polishes can be found on Etsy. Do follow her blog and her Facebook page for more updates!

Cult Nails Haul

My burrito babies just came out of the box for the first time! They are all wrapped up nicely in many many layers of tissue paper for safety!

And all stacked up and ready to be seen by the world for the first time on my blog!

Read on to see the polishes up close!

Purple refreshed!

As you know from yesterday's post, June is Migraine Awareness month and I am wearing purple to join a nail art competition by MariJo. Anyways, even though I am bad at nail art I couldn't just submit a plain manicure. So to spice it up a little I added some white (OPI Alpine Snow) and purple glitter (Bloop H555) to my tips and created this funky french!

Look what came in the mail today!

Talk about fast shipping!

I joined the pre-order for Cult Nails Fairytale Collection in May. May 31st to be exact. Since it was a pre-order, shipping for the collection was set for June 15th. Which to me would mean I'd have a good 2-3 weeks wait before it would arrive, and maybe about a month before I should panic.

But look at the shipping slip. It says that it was shipped out on the 13th (ahead of schedule! and with internet problems on Maria's end if I remember correctly) and it cleared Malaysian customs on the 19th! And yea, it took the post office 6 days to bring the parcel to me. Malaysian service at it's best =.=

Two thumbs up for Maria from Cult Nails and, er, no comments about PosMalaysia. LOL. I am actually happy that I got my parcel in good order. No squished box for me today!
My little burritos in a bed of cotton balls waiting to be opened :)

Lavender Love

...or lilac. I don't really know the difference actually.

I decided to bust out this light purple to join a competition on Instagram by Mari Jo from Polish Obsession. I am one of the worse person you can find for nail art but I joined it for another cause. The theme of the competition was to wear a purple polish in the month of June for Migraine Awareness month. Purple has been chosen as the official colour for migraine since March 2012.

Usually people would just classify a migraine as a bad headache but I can assure you that it is altogether different. While I may not suffer from chronic migraines, I do get the occasional migraine and it is no laughing matter.

If you do see this post in the month of June, try on a purple mani or maybe just add on some purple in your outfit to support this cause.

I just couldn't resist Revlon Whimsical which I got from a blog sale recently. *Thanks Chelsea!* So instead of going through my polishes in a FIFO sequence (first in first out) Whimsical just skipped to the front of the queue because it is so awesome!

I am sure almost all of you out there are familiar with Whimsical by now. Whimsical is a light blue jelly polish filled with light blue and pink hex glitters as well as fine blue and pink iridescent glitter. Owh, and it is also a dupe for Deborah Lippman's Glitter in the Air.

Whimsical is quite sheer and really precious to me. So instead of just wearing it alone I decided to layer it over my baby blue polish from Nature Republic. Whimsical really pops over the light blue if you ask me.

One lemming down many more to go!

Reverse Glitter Tips

As much as I loved my full mani with Irreplaceable, I knew I just had to bring out the subtle gold shimmer in it! I used NYX Mushroom Glitter (greyish gold glitter) which I got for only RM5 from my recent haul from the Nail Fiesta moving out sale.

I just painted a a third of my nails with NYX MG and dabbed some polish along my nails to give it a slight gradient effect. The two polishes blended very nicely and whenever lights hit my nails I would just stare at them in awe!

An artsy accidental blurred photo which shows how shiny the glitter is.

Essence Irreplaceable

This is the missing polish from my Essence haul not too long ago - Irreplaceable from the color & go line.

Irreplaceable is a grayish beige polish filled with gold glass flecks. I was hesitant as first to get it but now I'm glad I did! It is such a lovely colour and the formula was good. Only two coats was needed for full opacity.

Irreplaceable dried to a gritty finish which I thought could be settled with a coat of Seche Vite. But surprisingly SV didn't work in smoothing out the surface! I tried on other top coats that I owned and the one that worked best with this is actually the Essence Quick Dry Top Coat!

The photo below was taken a day after I did my nails. It shows the color off more accurately.

My camera and it's mood swings :S

Bye Bye Bling

*Sorry the photos are a little yellow today. This was taken late at night just before I removed it all and I didn't realize it had a yellow tint.*

Guess what happened to the layer of glitter I added as an accent nail in my last post.

It literally slid off after 5 hours!

This is the first time I had polish just slide off my fingernails. LOL. It was even still intact in the shape of my nail! I guess this is kind of a good thing right? No PITA glitter removal tonight :)

Samoan Sand

A quick quick update from my office table!

I did a mani using OPI Samoan Sand from the Winter 2011 collection if I am not mistaken. Or was it the Winter 2007 collection? Anyways, Samoan Sand is a lovely nude. Even after 3 coats it still looks barely there.

A photo with an apple aka my breakfast.

I tried to do a glitter sandwich with Samoan Sand and OPI Getting' Miss Piggy With It from the Muppets collection but it didnt turn out to be what I imagined so I decided to scrap that idea.

Instead I did an accent nail with a pink hex glitter from the LUCIDarling Fantastic Nails collection. I just added 2 coats of the glitter on top of Samoan Sand. It looks kinda gold-ish in the photo below though :/

There! This is a better photo for the pink glitter but you can barely see what SS is like in this photo.

Nail Polish Spree

This is my somewhat mini haul from taking part in a polish spree organized by Nail Polish Spree - Malaysian Edition.

I got myself another Revlon Whimsical (which I totally forgot about when I bought my last one from a blog sale), China Glaze - Ruby Pumps, First Mate and Dress me Up, and my very first Zoya Nail polishes - Dove and Mia! And last but not leasst a new bottle of Seche Vite Top Coat because my current one is all goopy and wonky.

Zoya Mia on my index and thumb and China Glaze Dress Me Up on my middle finger, ring finger and pinky

LUCIDarling Fantastic Nails

I picked up more polishes during my lunch break today :D 5 glitter polishes from Etude House. Unfortunately the label is in Korean so I can only identify them by the number code on the label.

From L-R: #04, #05, #06, #07, #08

#04 is the only one of the 5 filled with small gold glitter and bigger sized holographic glitter. The others are medium sized hex glitter suspended in a clear base. I picked out a pink, gold, turquoise and silver one from the display. I think I missed out on a purple glitter. Maybe I should drop by again next week..

I am wondering if I should swatch them seperately or just go on and use them in my manis. What do you think?

Of Dots and Roses

I just had to bring out the gold shimmer in the copper/bronze polish from my last post. And the best way I could think of was to dot it with some gold polish.

While I was dotting on the gold dots I was thinking - to rose, or not to rose! After giving it some thought, voila! A rose on my thumb as an accent nail! My rose doesn't look perfect but I love it so! I couldn't stop staring at it while I had this mani on.

Copper Tone

I found an old polish I have for probably 10 years now! It's a rich bronze by Artistry. I haven't been usimg it much because back when I was younger I thought this polish actually looked kinda old on me. But looking at it now I think it is actually quite pretty.

There are actually a lot of gold shimmer hiding within the polish that I just couldn't capture! Though I think you could catch a glimpse of it in the shots of the bottle in the photos below.

More nail mail!!

Ok. The crazy rant aside, I am soooo loving this week!

Although I am missing out on a lot of new stuff because of my no buy, I am finally receiving all my packages from weeks before!

The newest package that came in my mailbox is a newly limited edition-ed polish from the Australian brand piCture pOlish. Can you guess which it is? Hint: you have to look beyond the sparkle!

Hoho. I purchased mask-a-rade from Llarowe during her birthday-memorial day sale not too long ago. mask-a-rade is from the opulence range of polishes from piCture pOlish. My photos aren't all that flattering but if you look at it in person you will be amazed by it. It looks like a dark polish here but in real life, Mask-a-rade is a clear based polish packed with multichrome glitter. It shifts through so many colors it's mesmerizing.

mask-a-rade and much more awesome polishes can be purchased worldwide from piCture pOlish, Llarowe and Harlow and Co websites.

1500 Followers Giveaway at Glam Polish!

Up for grabs in this giveaway are 6 colours from the new On Safari collection from China Glaze.

I am loving a few colours from this collection just by looking at this promo pic!

Hurry on by Glam Polish to take part in this giveaway! :)

A Shopaholic's No-Buy Rant

Ahhh! Being in a NO-Buy situation sucks!

I popped by etsy earlier on for a bit and saw so so so many new polishes listed. *WHHHYY did I ever decide to declare a no-buy sentence to myself!!* If you took a peek at my cart you would see that I actually have 20 polishes in it. There's some from Lush Lacquer, The Hungry Asian, All That Glitters, Candy Lacquer and Utopias Polish. These are only from the shops that ship internationally. Who knows how many polishes would be in my cart if not for the shipping restrictions from some shops!

Born Pretty is another site where I have my cart filled with nail supplies! Rhinestones, studs, nail decals and stamping wheels. Hoho. I am tempted to check some of this out soon! I could just pick a $2.99 item and ship it to me at no extra cost! But I won't. *good shopaholic in rehab*

There is also the all the new collections coming out from the different big brands! OPI has the Minnie Mouse, Neons and the Germany Collection. Essie with the Bikini so Teeny collection, Zoya Beach & Surf Collection, and the Sunner Neons from China Glaze. So many colours so little cash! and oh so far away from me!

And the ultimate worse part of a No-Buy - it is Mega Sale Season in Malaysia! Almost all the shops, big brand or not are on sale. Items go on sale for as much 80% off in some cases. My friend just told me that my one of my favorite shoe shop Charles and Keith has shoes going for 70% off. And I just spotted a colleague in a nice shift dress. And I am getting a member/discount from a friend soon. And...and...and..

There's just so so soo much more to buy! But I have to resist for the sake of my holidays! I know if I buy now I will feel to guilty to really enjoy shopping on holiday. So for now I must bid the polishes in my cart goodbye and I hope that you will still be there after my no-buy sentence has been lifted!

Adieu my lovelies!
*empties shopping cart*

Pirouette My Whistle on Cocktail Bling

I picked up Cocktail Bling from Essie's Cocktail Bling Collection for Winter 2011 after a a long hunt for a light grey polish. I Have always been eyeing French Quarter For Your Thoughts from the OPI Touring America Collection Fall 2011 but have not came across it at my usual hunting grounds.

In the bottle Cocktail Bling looks more of a dusty purple to me. Fortuantely upon application it turned out as I expected - a nice dusty light grey! Although the color is lovely I decided to add a little glam to the manicure. I added a 2 coats of Pirouette My Whistle to it and sealed it with a thin coat of My Pointe Exactly, both from the OPI New York Ballet series.

I had my doubts about layering the glitter under a jelly because my last attempt did not turn out well with Franken-pink but now that I have done this I am in love! The delicate glitter in PMW was covered nicely and evenly by MPE. *phew*

On to the photos!
